You’re running a busy service business with a skilled team and shared spaces or equipment. To keep things running smoothly, you need to manage both staff time and resources. Without a clear system, double-bookings or delays can happen. That’s where Resources help by keeping everything organized so you can deliver a great experience.
What is a Resource?
A Resource is anything you need to provide a service in addition to the stylist’s time, like a haircut station, manicure table, or pedicure chair. Throughout this article, we’ll use a salon as an example to show how Resources can help improve your business operations.
Scenario
You are a salon owner and have several different pieces of equipment (Resources) that need to be available to the staff member for that service such as:
- Hair stations
- Manicure tables
- Pedicure chairs
For example, when a client books a haircut, they’ll need both a stylist and an available hair station. Both the person and the space need to be available to deliver the service on time.
1. Set Up Resource Types
Start by deciding what types of resources your business uses and how many you need for each.
For this example, you have:
- (2) Hair Stations
- (2) Manicure Tables
- (2) Pedicure Chairs
Add Resources
To add your resources:
- Open the platform.
- Click Settings.
- Click Resources.
- Click New resource type.
- Enter the resource type (e.g. Hair Station) and quantity (like 2).
- Click Create.
2. Connect Resources to Services
Next, assign the resource or resources each service needs.
For example:
- Haircut = Hairstyle Station
- Manicure = Manicure Table
- Pedicure = Pedicure Chair
Assign Resource to a Service
To assign a resource to a service:
- Open the platform.
- Click Settings.
- Click Services.
- Select a service.
- Under “Resources,” choose the resource(s) needed for that service.
- Click Save.
Important: Any boxes you check in this step will block that resource for the full length of the service. For example, If you check the box for both Hair Station and the Pedicure Chair, both resources will be unavailable during the appointment time.
To avoid blocking more than needed, create separate services for different appointment types (like haircut and pedicure) and assign resources to each. You can also use our Multi-service booking to let clients schedule services back-to-back with only one resource blocked per service.
How Resource Booking Works
When a client books a service, the platform makes sure everything needed is available before confirming the appointment.
Here’s how it works:
- The platform checks if the staff member (like a stylist) is available.
- The platform also checks if the required resource (like a hairstyle station or pedicure chair) is free at that time.
- The booking is only confirmed if both the staff and the resource are available.
For example, if a client tries to book a pedicure that requires a pedicure chair but all chairs are already booked, the platform will prevent double-booking and only show times that are available.
